okay, equating actual domestic abuse and verbal slurs in a song are not comparable, so don’t do that, but i see your point. i think it’s a double standard to condemn chris brown and at the same time enjoy or appreciate kayne and other musicians of popular standing without criticising or questioning the rampant misogyny and homophobic language in their songs. i honestly find a lot of hip hop or rap music is just rife with verse after verse implying the violence, objectification, or degradation of women, or the frequent use of the word ‘faggot’ and therefore inherently implying that gay men / queers are something weak, shameful and worthy of insult, which is inexcusable in all contexts. so we should be addressing the problems within other mainstream rap artists as well as refusing to support the public celebration of chris brown.
